Help on dvd's

HAROLD SILBER

Good day !!

I have edited a wedding video (WMM2) and I have already saved the completed
avi files in the PAL format . ( I live in Johannesburg, South Africa and we
use the PAL system here) . I have also saved some mpeg2 files (also made
using PAL format ) using auto muvee.
The problem is that 3 out of the 5 DVD's which I'm producing are going to be
sent to the USA. The dvds which I am using are DVD+R discs.
Using SONIC MY DVD to write to the dvds ,,, I have had no problems making
the standard PAL dvds.
Now it seems that I have to re-save all the files ( about 6 different
movies ) in the NTSC format,, and then use SONIC MY DVD to write them. This
is going to be a lot of extra work.
Is there any way that these discs (PAL) will play in any of your DVD players
over there in the States ..??

Second question .
I have been using a DVD+RW hp disc to record some other projects. My SONIC
DVD ,, erases the disc first as required ,, and the disc works fine on the
computer. However when playing it in my DVD player ,,, it says NO DISC ,,,
and therefore doesn't play.

I await your expert help ...

US tvs cannot play any PAL format.... sorry.... it's not like the European
models that can manage to interpret a NTSC signal when fed through the
S-Video or SCART socket, in the US there is no way.

You can save the files from MM2 in DV-AVI format.... I don't know about
SonicMyDVD but Roxio 6 will then certainly re-encode in whichever format
(NTSC or PAL) you want, you can then save that image file and burn it to the
DVD. When I have to make DVDs and know they'll be going to both NTSC and
PAL folks, I do actually make two iso image files, one in NTSC and one in
PAL, to save time later. Then it's just a question of burning whichever
image file I want to DVD.

As for which format (+ or -) that your standalone can play, you'll have to
check out at www.dvdrhelp.com as to what make and model you have and what is
compatible with it.
