Under
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\audio/mp3
and/or
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\audio/mpeg
, some 3rd party software changed the value "Extension" from ".mp3" to
".mpeg". Either change it back yourself or go to WMP's Tools:Options:File
Types and associate things there back to WMP, and WMP will fix this for you.
