Help Monitor shuts down at bootup in XP

Hi
A friend of mine has the following problem.
The computer has been working OK and has Windows XP Home edition
installed. The other evening she turned it off as normal but the next
day when she went to start her computer the following happened and has
done so ever since.
She turns the computer on, gets the company logo appear, then she gets
the windows xp logo with the bar at the bottom showing the progress.
The screen then goes blank like it normally does, windows continues to
load but the monitor goes into standby mode even though the computer
is still continuing to load windows, at least according to the hard
drive activity, which after a short while stops. If she tries to
switch the monitor off then on again she still gets no picture, the
monitor remains blank. Can any body help please.
Regards
Tony

sIf this is a laptop computer they can be set to display to screen or
externally attached display or device such as projector. Check with the user
guide as to what is required to switch between the 3 possible uses.

If it is a desktop, then the Dsiplay Adapter may be installed with the wrong
drivers.

Try booting up in safe mode and see if the display remains on and adjust
display properties accordingly or to correct any driver file problems..

Also some AGP adapters can be set for use with second display and may need
to be altered to use the PC attached display.

Test the monitor with another system to confirm it is ok, if thuis fails
then her graphics card is suspect. Then try using graphics card from
another system and use the original monitor you will sonn have your
answer one way or the other.
