Help! misterious click

Please help me! From a couple of days I hear a click from the loudspeakers;
it occurs exactly every 15 seconds.
It is the kind of "mouse" click you can hear - for example - when you click
on a link on a html document with Explorer.
I have a HP Pavilion 3225 with Win XP Home edition 5.1 sp2
I tried to close every application and the internet connection but the click
didn't disappear.
I couldn't find any precedent on Google or Usenet.
I don't think it's a virus, since I have a Norton Security always running
and updated on-line. Moreover, complete PC scans by Norton and by ad-aware
gave no results.
Looking at the task manager, I noticed that, in coincidence with the click,
the process rundll32.exe goes for an instant from 00% to 01% CPU.

It is a real nightmare! I have to keep the loudspeakers switched off in
order not to get crazy.

Thanks in advance for your help
Aris

Have you looked in your event logs? Have you run chkdsk or any other disk
scanning utility? Clicking sounds are often indicative of drive failure. Do
a full backup now just in case.

Thanks for the tips, but....
- the event logs do not show anything strange;
- I run a check utility on the hard disk and it seems ok as well (in any
case, I did the backup..)

Any other idea?

Bye

I believe I'm getting the same thing. You're talking about the
"Complete Navigation" click like when you click on something in
Internet Explorer, right? I just started getting it yesterday and it
was driving me crazy. So once I figured out that it was not due to
any malware or spyware that I could detect, I turned the sound off in
the Control Panel.
