Help! Media Centre Keyboard Won't work with XP Pro

Hi

I have just bought an XP media center model 1044 keyboard. I also bought the
remote. Reason: I need the infra red to train another remote to send Hotkeys
to the PC.

Anyway The Media Center remote works fine and the keyboard does do some
stuff like when I push the OK button. The lights show up on the keyboard
itself. The 'receive' light shows up on the infrared reciever so I can only
assume it's working OK.....and it works OK on an actual media center PC. On
XP Pro (no media center software installed) however I can't type anything.
Are ther drivers or is someone gonna tell me it ONLY works with Media Center
edition? If this is the case any good ideas on another infra-red keyboard or
options?

Thanks in advance

little more info please...

what computer/os... i.e. is it a media center computer and/or do you
have the media center ir-rollup installed (ms does not support this kb
on non media center computers, but it does work if the ir rollup is
installed)

Hi Beverly

Thanks heaps for this. Installed the rollup and all go. I run XP Pro and the
PC is just a normal PC not a media center one.....all I needed was the
infra-red to work and it now does.

Love your work :)

Please lettuce know what you find for launching activities via the
remote... I'm also in the process of setting this up.

My plan is to use a folder shortcut hotkey command to open a folder of
shortcuts, then use the remote to scroll, select and execute.

However, the <ctrl-alt-???> keyboard ir commands are pretty complex and
will probably need to be combined.

more "heads up" ...

the "mouse stick" activates by pressing it down, and it has to be held
down to move the cursor

Slowing down the "mouse speed" makes a major difference in using the
mouse stick... however, it really helps to know shorcut keys... such as

<Alt-spacebar> N

none of the "media specific" buttons including the "green start" button
work by default under basic XP... if you find how to reassign them,
please post what you find.

You can do a surprising amount of functions using the buttons on the
"remote" makes a great presentation controller with the rollup
installed on a presentation computer

as far as i have been able to determine, you can't use the default ir
port on notebooks... different protocol and I have not found out how to
modify that with drivers so that it's not necessary to carry the media
center ir dongle along.

The JP1 forum has "windows media center" "protocol update files" which
can be uploaded and installed on JP1 remotes such as the programmable
OneForAll remotes... just got through adding it to their URC-8910 remote.
