Help! Lost Toolbar On Desktop

The toolbar that runs along the bottom of my desktop that allows me to access
all my programmes, shut down, log off, the time, etc, has been removed from
the screen and I cannot get it back. Do not remember doing anything to
initiate this. Please help me with suggestion to get it back.
