Someone was using my computer and I ended up with a whole bunch of junk programs installed - my home page was changed and I got tons and tons of pop-ups and I also had all kinds of other stuff iinstalled - this person went to a lot of online gambling sites and I think that was the problem

I've managed to fix just about everything except my IE>Tools>Internet Options. I've lost some Options! The whole "General" tab is gone, which mean I can't re-sent my home page or clear my cache or anything.
The Option tabs I am left with are Security, Privacy, Content, Connections, and Advanced and I'm on version 6.02.

I have no idea how to begin addressing this problem

I thought it would be as simple as re-installing IE til I found out that IE can't be uninstalled and so it can't be installed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated because I'm completely stuck and my only option at this point is to go back to Netscape since I can't install a new version of IE. The Option tabs I am left with are Security, Privacy, Content, Connections, and Advanced and I'm on version 6.02.

Thanks.

Hi Kim have you got XP and the update SP1 installed in Add/Remove programs. If you have try uninstalling what looks like Internet Explorer Q831167, it does mean you will have to go back to microsoft update and download again but it might help, otherwise just go into add/Remove look on the left side "Add/Remove Windows programs" and take the tick out of IE which will at least disable it. If it doesn't work you can always try your other Browser.

Kim,
Work through the solutions at http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Also
note the security tips on that page.
Be sure to run CWShredder, Ad-aware and Spybot.

To restore the missing General tab, See Various Registry Fixes on that page.

Don, Thank you very much for the information, I have made some good progess with spyware killer program and a hijacker program but I am still plagued by one very persistent browser hijacker that won't go away. Are there any additional recsources you can suggest for this specific problem? Thanks!

Kim,
If CWShredder, Ad-aware and Spybot (I'd run them in that order) don't remove
the malware, HijackThis should be used to post a log to the appropriate
forum at one of these sites. Let the spyware experts help you.
