Anyone,

We just upgraded from Windows 98 to XP Professional, a
change spurred on by a virus that made my Microsoft
Office products inaccessible. I'm trying to set our
email up. On 98, I used Outlook, and we also ran Outlook
Express for my kids. We're all going to switch to
Outlook Express now. I'd like to import the old Outlook
address book into the current Outlook Express. I've got
this conglomeration of files saved from our old hard
drive, and don't see anything with an extension of .WAB.
It could've been corrupted by whatever damage was
inflicted by the virus. But I'd like to exhaust all
possibilities to recover this address book. Is there any
other way to recover this address book???? Please help!!!

It's a .pst file with all the Outlook stuff. You should set up Outlook again
to export the address book as a csv file to import into OE.

Thanks, Mary. Yes, I see an archive.pst and a backup.pst
as well as a mailbox.pab file. I'm actually not going to
be using Outlook anymore ... just Outlook Express. When
I try to import from Outlook Express. I don't see
anyplace that I can export from a file of type pst. Is
there some way that I can convert that file to a .wab????
Also, is there a way for me to 'view' the .pst files to
ensure that they have my data/addresses?

I feel pretty ignorant here. Thanks for your patience.

You will need to open the file in Outlook as only Outlook can read .pst
files. Once you have it opened in Outlook, use the Export function to
export to Excel. Then use the Outlook Express Import function to import the
files into OE's contacts.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer, Penny asked:

Outlook, in general, does not use the WAB. Outlook Express does. The only
case where Outlook used the WAB was with Outlook 98/2000 in Internet Mode
Only and then only if the "share the address book" option was selected in
the WAB.

If you do not have Outlook installed, there is no way for Outlook Express to
import anything from Outlook.
