Help!! Laptop won't come out of sleep mode

Hi. My Compaq Presario notebook appears to be stuck in safe mode. Not
sure what's going on. I do not believe it's the LCD - I connected it
to an external monitor and still no picture. What happens is when I
power up the computer I can hear the hard drive come on but no picutre
and then it appears to go in sleep more. I was able to do a check on
the hard drive and it appears to be fine. While I was able to get the
computer out of safe mode a few times before - it seems stuck
indefinitely now. I would appreciate any help.

One tack you could take is to download a copy of Knoppix
(http://www.knoppix.org/ ),
boot your laptop from that, copy your data etc. to an external device
such as a USB stick or external drive and then do a repair install, if
your machine came with disks that will permit this or do a factory
restore/reinstallation.

If your CDs or installation partition only permits a restore back to
the factory conditions then remember ALL your data will probably be
lost so you must try to backup your important data first.

You have hardware failure. It isn't possible to tell what components have
failed without seeing your machine. Call Compaq tech support.
