HELP: Ixeplore illegal "ops" - invalid page faults in mod.
KERNAL32.DLL . . .

HELP!!! PLEASE BEAR WITH ME AS I'VE INCLUDED COMPLETE
INFORMATION FOR THE EASIEST DIAGNOSTIC HELP FOR THE PERSON
WHO WILL HOPEFULLY HELP ME OUT OF THESE PROBLEMS.

The most typical error messages are copied below. I've
already taken all advice visible inthese news groups and
completed every action required: I have emptied Temp
Internet files and deleted cookies, and I have removed ad
and spyware etc, with all recommended software (Spybot,
etc), I've checked and rechecked video drivers for updates
and I already have the lastest drivers. I've done
everything one can do according to all the advice given in
replies to other messages similar to mine, though I have
not found any message with the exact same problem (#2) I'm
having. Anyway,

After doing all windows updates, I started having these 2
problems, the 2nd being the most annoying. I did all
critical updates, then I updated to Windows Media Player 9
& "DirectX 9." Now,

Problem #1- [NOTE: PLS.FOCUS ON PROB. #2 FIRST AND
FOREMOST] Windows update keeps determining that I need
Critical/Security Update 823559 (Security Bulletin MS03-
023), no matter how many times I've installed it (and
verified it as a "successful install" under installation
history). I have installed it many, many times. Can't
figure this out? Not a big bother but Confusing. Could it
be related to #2, below?

Problem #2- Biggest problem, real bothhersome!!: I keep
getting "Internet Explorer Illegal Operations" error
messages (see below). Upon clicking "close," the IE window
doesn't close but keeps loading the page, and the illegal
operation message window keeps popping up again, almost
instantly - time after time - until the page is finally
loaded or done. It usually pops up a dozen or times in the
process of loading a page. {Copies of typical Illegal
Operation details are below.}

My System:

I'm running Windows 98 SE, and, IE 6.0.2800.1106IC, with
updates "SP1, Q824145, Q330994, & q313829. I'm using SBC
DSL connection/SBC Global is my ISP. I currently have a
pentium 233 Megahurtz with 64mg Ram and 4 gb harddrive and
an 8 gb secondary harddrive. Freespace on the main 4 gb
hardrive has varied from over a gigabyte to just under a
gigabyte with no effect on the problem. Everything runs
best with about 1 gb free space. Also, the problem did not
exist and surfing was a breeze prior to downloading the
DirectX 9, as best as I can recall. OH, I HAVE DR WATSON
LOG IF NEEDED.

WHAT I'M DOING WHEN IT HAPPENS:

All I have to do is start IE with a shortcut link directed
to load my home page or internet email page (Yahoo), or
the Windows Update page, and many others. Admittedly,
certain sites load correctly without it doing this.
Several error messages are as follows, copied below. These
things keep popping instantly after closing one, but,
luckily, the Internet Exlorer window stays up and keeps
loading, gradually - between all the error popups. These
can popup at least 10 to 12 times, or more, while trying
to load a page.

A. See

http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Especially see the instructions for HijackThis.

B. You may need new video drivers. Check the site for your video board
manufacturer. Meanwhile you can do the following:
1. Use the default mouse pointers.
2. Turn down your color depth. (Right click the desktop and choose
Properties | Appearance | Settings) Some people find that increasing color
depth helps.
3. Turn down your graphics hardware acceleration. (For Win 98, Start |
Settings | Control Panel | System | Performance | Graphics button) You will
see little, if any, performance degradation.
4. Turn off your desktop wallpaper.

If these make the problem go away you need new video drivers.

If you have an ATI video board, try adding these lines to System.ini

First eliminate any scumware.
See

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each need to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded.
