Invalid page fault when installing updates from microsoft

I keep getting the below error message wehn tring to add
update patches from Microsoft. I contacted Microsoft and
they said to use a different web browser, like Netscape.
Nice support help, just use another web browser, WHAT A
JOKE!! Can anyone please help.
