I have a old Dell computer wtih 1.7Ghz 512mb ram, 2 IDE HD (1x80GB, 1x
200GB) 1 DVD Burner, 1 48x CDRW

Recently I'm short of storage, so I am thinking about adding
additional HD onto my computer. I figure buying another IDE will not
be worth it, since it will not be use commenly in the future.

here is my concern,

I have a WD 500gb SATAII drive, and a Promise SATA I RAID contorller
card on hand. Can I just plug in the Raid card and use it only as a
controller card instaed of config as RAID to connect my new SataII
drive? I will set the SATAII drive jumper to revert to Sata I
output.

I don't want to move over my existing Operation System to the new
drive, I only want to use the new 500gb drive as a storage. Will the
bios still boot from my old IDE drive first and recognize the 500gb as
storage?

Any suggestion and comment are greatly appreciated!!!

Thank You so much!

Kevin
