help in port also in firewall

Hello I got a window warning to I have a" open port so in
that way my computer will be visible to a hacker" ,also I
got a xp home how I can set a personal firewall ? if I put
a firewall how I can search the internet.? or open some
web pages,this will affected...? Thanks
