HELP: I don't bl**dy believe it!

Frank Burns

I just bought a brand new PC with Windows XP Home.

I set up a user account with restricted privileges and another with
administrator privileges.

I wanted to upgrade the account with restricted privileges to admin
privielges, but it's NOT VISIBLE!

I can log on to the restricted account, but, as I say, it's not visible from
the administrator accounts.

So within the first hour of using my PC I already have a "corrupt" user
account! *&$%£!

Can anyone please tell me how to make this user account visible?

Or can anyone please tell me how to safely remove this corrupt user account?

Thanks,

Frank.

Create a new user profile, then delete the other user account after
transferring the old account's information to your new account.

Carey, thanks for the reply BUT the references you supplied don't solve my
problem becuase none of them tell me how to REMOVE the corrupt account.

You see, I MUST HAVE a working account with the name of the corrupt one, to
be able to access shared folders, etc., between my two machines -- my old PC
and my new PC.

Why? Because my OLD machine, that has the account name that is corrupt on
the new machine, is also an XP Home-based PC and it only allows me to have
ONE account which it won't let me change -- yes the security management is
buggered on that too.

So, in essence, if I can't recover/delete and recreate that account, I
cannot get my two machines to talk to each other!

CAN ANYONE HELP WITH THIS?

Thanks,

P.S. XP security management is truly RUBBISH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Open User Accounts and click the name of the Account you want to delete. Then click
Delete The Account.

You will be given the following choices:-
.. Keep Files - Windows copies certain parts of the user's profile, specifically
files and folders stored on the desktop and in the My Documents folder to a folder on
your desktop where they become part of your profile and remain under your control.
All the rest will be deleted such as e-mail messages and other data stored in the
Application Data folder, Internet favourites and settings stored in the registry.
.. Delete Files - Deletes the whole User Account including files in My Documents
folder etc.

If you have deleted an Account other than through User Accounts, then to rectify this
situation:-
.. Rick-click My Computer and choose Properties.
.. Click the Advanced tab and then click Settings under User Profiles.
.. Select the account named Account unknown (the deleted Account) and click Delete.

The problem is that I CANNOT see it in the User Accounts to be able to
delete it -- although, strangely, I CAN log on with the account's username
and password.

Any ideas?

Hey Jerry, when you say "those of us outside the UK", what about the bloody
Australians!? I believe they use it that way, too :)
