Help - I deleted my DNS

O

Ola

Hello all,

I have two win2k running Active Directory. I made the
mistake of deleting DNS on one of the servers and trying
to force DNS to run on only one Server. The server that I
deleted DNS on, is the domain that all the other
workstations logon to. All I needed to do was to install
the second server, and establish a trust relationship
between the two servers, unfortunately, because the second
server (new) has all our pertinent internet info, domain
name on this new server is the actual registered domain
name on the internet, and this server hosts our exchange.

Now since I erroneously deleted DNS on the first domain,
can I just reinstall it and establish the trust
relationship and everything would be okay or have I
messed up the network setup completely?

Server 1 - IP address 192.168.1.10

Domainname - gwiconline.com (Not publicly registered)
Server Name - gwic
DNS - 192.168.1.50

Server 2 - IP address 192.168.1.50

Domainname - gwic.biz
Server Name - forbes
DNS - 192.168.1.50

In reading some of the threads, I figured I should not
have deleted the first DNS but forward one server's DNS to
the other one.

Please advice….

Thank you all in advance

This should be relatively easy to fix. I assume it was the gwiconline.com
zone that you lost. Point gwic.gwiconline to itself for dns, install dns
on this server and create an AD-Integrated zone called gwiclonline.com.
Restart the netlogon service and the domain records should register. Make
sure that "register this connections addresses in dns" is selected in the
advanced tcp/ip properties dns tab.

Once this is working, you can add secondaries of the other domain to each
dns server
