Because of a problem I am having I need to access my
WindowsXP CD. The portion of the CD that I need to
access is the recovery mode. Before I can move forward
it asks me for my Administrator password which I type in
and it keeps telling me that the passwod is not valid.
This is the same password I use on the sign on screen
with no problem. Can you please be of some assistance in
the resolution of this issue so that I can access the
CD? Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I believe so as I am still
using the same password to sign on to the welcome screen.

I think that you are trying to reach a restricted are on the cd. I don't beleive this has anything to do with your personal password for your machine.

I think you need to stick to "being people", because it has everything to do
with whatever password the user set for administrator password when the
machine was installed. It asks for the Administrator password, as most
people do not install their own system (comes pre-installed), it is likely
like the "big-boys" left it at "blank". Usually a normal home user does not
even know the administrator account exists.

There is nothing "restricted" on retail CDs and unless the OEM sold them a
recovery CD (image) instead of an actual XP cd (which cannot be as they get
to the point where the the CD (when booted for recovery) asks for a
password) - so they just need to know what was used as the administrator
password.

changed your motherboard?

A recovery CD is tied to the hardware that was installed by the OEM at the
time of construction. You cannot change the motherboard and then use the
Recovery CD to install. You must buy either an OEM or full version of
WInXP.
