Help: HDD partitions not detected (Int13...Sector not found...)

Jay

I have a Seagate 20GB HDD. I formatted the HDD into 3 primary
partitions (C,D,E) and 2 Logical partitions (F,G). The partitions is
in sequence as mentioned. Last few days I attached this HDD in USB HDD
casing and connected to my office PC running Windos 2000. 2 of the
partitions (D & E) was not readable by the PC and the system asking
for formatting the partition. I tried formatting the partitions (since
the data there are no more important to me) but failed. From that
point onwards, the entire HDD cannot be detected by the OS. I
reconnected it back into my PC's IDE cable but also the same, all the
5 paritions are not detected by the OS. I then tried booting from
Win98 boot disk. From DOS there, I can browse for my C drive, but not
4 other partitions. Trying to fdisk the HDD also have no use. It came
out some Int13 error saying sector not found/read error.

I think the HDD has not crashed entirely. Anybody knows how can I
recover this HDD please.

Thanks.

Regards,
Jay

Presumably because you have 3 primary partitions.
I tried formatting the partitions (since the data
there are no more important to me) but failed.

Presumably because it doesnt like 3
primary partitions on one physical drive.
From that point onwards, the entire
HDD cannot be detected by the OS.

Most likely its got royally confused now.
I reconnected it back into my PC's IDE cable but also
the same, all the 5 paritions are not detected by the OS.

Presumably the partition table has
got rather comprehensively mangled.
I then tried booting from Win98 boot disk. From DOS there,
I can browse for my C drive, but not 4 other partitions.

Because it doesnt like more than one primary partition either.

Trying to fdisk the HDD also have no use. It came

With the drive still on the IDE cable, run clearhdd from the floppy.
http://www.samsung.com/Products/HardDiskDrive/utilities/clearhdd.htm

The repartition the drive and dont put 3 primary partitions on it.

Hi, I have downloaded the Disktool and execute the Full Erase
function, it runs fine for the first few minutes (i think that was the
first primary partition) but later on it stopped because of error.
Below I appended the log file from Disktool. Please advice. Thanks.

I have downloaded the clearhdd.exe from the link you provided
and I have run the tool in my PC. Still, it is not able to fix my drive.
The tool stop with an error code 80. What other utilities you would
suggest? Thanks.

I'd run the hard drive manufacturer's diagnostic
on the drive. It looks like its flakey.

I have run Seagate's disk diagnostic utility either, without any
success. It said the HDD had severe damage and asking me to return the
HDD to the manufacturer. Too bad my drive is not under warrantee
anymore. :(

Basically the drive has died. Time to buy a new one.

I hope you arent into necrophilia |-)
