Help hanging up modem

Guest

Whenever I use my modem to dial up my network at work or an ISP, I can't end
the call and hang up the modem without shutting down Windows completely. I
click on the little modem communication icon in Systray and then click
"Disconnect" but it never does.
Computer is new home-built system with Athlon 2200+, 512MB ram, 80GB HD,
CD-RW, BestData internal v.92 modem, Windows 2000 Pro with SP4, and the
latest drivers have been installed for all components (video, modem, sound,
etc.) . The first time I used the computer for dialing out it hung up with
no problem, but never again.

Any suggestions on how to solve this?

Did it have the ms03-039 patch installed before you connected to the
internet? If not, you're blasted.

Okay, I'm blasted. How about a little more information on how to solve the
problem instead of telling me I have a problem (I already know that).

Is the only resolution to reinstall Windows, SP4, and the MS03-039 patch
before connecting to the net or is there another resolution?
Also, is there an SP5 (or something like it) out there yet that contains
MS03-039 and all the other fixes that have come out since SP4 (which is
almost 7 months old now)?

Thanks in advance for replies,

Phil

Open Taskmanager and look for the msblast.exe, mspatch.exe or
teekids-proces. Or boot in safe mode and look for those files in the
\winnt\system32-folder. Kill it and go to
www.sophos.com\support\disinfection to get the removaltool (this will clean
your registry). After that install ms03-039 from microsoft to prevent from
happening again.
