Is there a way to have my default browser launched when I click on links
to URL:s in help files (chm files)

Sorry, no. HTML Help uses Internet Explorer as its "layout engine";
the topic pane in a .chm file is an embedded Internet Explorer window.
So clicking a hyperlink in a help topic always opens the target Web
page in Internet Explorer because this is the application used to
display the source topic.
