HELP: Every Launch of Access XP shows the setup initialization window

J

Jack Ling

Hi,

Every time I launch Access XP, a window always comes up
stating that it is preparing for setup, gathering
information etc. Without my intervention, it will continue
to launch Access and it is alright then.

I only notice this problem recently. I can't remember if
this happens after I applied some Windows patches or Office
service pack 3?

Anybody can help me?
thanks a lot,
jackling

This often happens if you also have Access 97 installed on the same machine.
Access 97 will silently re-register the application as the main associated
app for the extensions (.mdb, .mda, etc.) Then later versions will
re-register back to themselves.

The way to stop it is to locate the file: msaccess.srg and rename it, then
create a blank notepad text file and name it msaccess.srg

Hi Arvin,

Thanks for your reply.
However, I couldn't find the msaccess.srg file in my
system. And my systems have not had Access 97 installed
before. In fact, we have MS Office Pro installed from the
scratched for the systems.

thanks and best regards,
jackling
