Hi,
I wan't buy a optical disk device for backup. options with me are:
1)CDRW+DVDROM (combo), or 2)DVD RW.
What worries me is that the DVD formats are fast updating (Heard of
the Blue Ray, HD etc). I dont want to see my H/W need upgradation very
soon. My question is, how soon and how badly is the Technology
upgradation going to render a DVD RW obsolete.
If it is very soon, I'll go for the CDRW+DVDROM combo. Are there any
issues here? Thanking you for your comments,
B Sharma

Your choice is between a CD writer and a DVD writer, and it's an easy
choice: DVD's hold much more information than CDs.

Computer technology is constantly changing. There's always something new
coming out next year. Buy what you need today.

CD-RW media brand (manufacturers) choices have diminished rapidly in the
last few years, DVD media is now the standard and occupies the most shelf
space in stores. Verbatim recently announced a new DVD-RW that are more
scratch resistant, so active developments and improvements shows you where
the monies being spent. I recently switched to using DVD's for backups as
quality CD's are getting harder to find and DVD media prices have dropped
significantly.

Hi
Thanks for all your suggestions and information. Certainly, DVD would
be a much better option than CD RW, but I wanted to be sure a DVD RW
drive doesn't become obsolete too soon. It seems it will take some time
for the technologies at different labs to converge.
Thanks everybody!
Cheers
