HELP! Disk Defrag not working...

I cannot get scandisk or defrag to work...I even tried
downloading other defrag tools.

I get this message:

Scan Fat: Scan Aborted - Fatal Error - File:\\?
\C:Winnt\System32\Drivers\System.log


Ideas?

Try

chkdsk c: /r

from the command prompt first. Will most likely require a reboot.
Sounds like you've got some corruption.

Sounds like that log holds invalid chars etc. or the path is too long

Can I delete the log file? Or modify it in some way?

Is this path perhaps too long? If so can I/how do I
modify it?
