HELP! DFI LANPARTY NFII Ultra B

Hi,

I have a DFI LANPARTY NFII Ultra B and AMD Thouroughbred 2800 CPU

When I first put it together it would start going into windows then power
down.

So I bought a 550W PSU to replace the 350W that was in there and it didnt
fix it.

As it goes, these days it powers dowm after about 10 seconds so it dont even
give me chance to get in bios and make any changes.

All my knowledge stretches to is resetting the BIOS and disconnecting all my
drives. I was hoping you guys could help me out.

One thing I will point out is that the fan is not a super one.. just a
coolermaster one for a tenner from computer shop - could the CPU overheat in
like 10 seconds? i used themal compound..

any help appreciated.

Was the 350W a decent name-brand?
How about the 550W?
Funny thing about generics, the 550W, if a generic, "could" even be the
exact same power supply with a different casing/label.

As it goes, these days it powers dowm after about 10 seconds so it dont even

Upon POST, immediately enter bios setup, hardware monitor screen. Check
voltage and temperature readings. Temp will rise slightly, but not
alarmlying fast if system properly cooled.

If power supply is adequate, see if heatsink is proprely seated, not
backwards, and that there are no irregularities on the bottom. If it's
the original AMD heatsink using the thermal pad, removing the 'sink may
require that you remove the thermal pad material and apply a thin layer of
heatsink grease... the thermal pad is a one-use material, should not be
used again if heatsink is removed. Even so, heatsink grease will usually
lower temps too.

No, a low-end 'sink should not cause overheat in only 10 seconds unless
something else is wrong, like drastically overvolted CPU (would have to be
manually set that way in bios or with voltage jumpers) or if heatsink
wasn't sitting properly on CPU, socket. Enter the bios screen and see if
just sitting there, it still has this problem. Take voltage readings at
power supply connector(s) with a multimeter if possible.
