Hello,

There are at least two reasons why you get that error. An activeX control
is called in a "script" that has been malformed, OR, a call to a DLL or OCX
is referring to the name of a procedure or the numeric address of that
procedure and the procedure does not exist with that name/address...that's
the boring bit

Possible reasons..You have attempted to load a file type that is not
compatible with Movie Maker or a certain DLL (Codec) is being used instead
of the one that you want.

The easy solution (if it works at all) is to turn off the codecs that might
be causing the problem. In Movie Maker go to tools > options > advanced and
remove the check marks from any codecs shown.

The next solution assumes that the above procedure failed.....as it does
with quite a large number of people. You grab a program from my website
called Rename Codecs. This program targets the known problem codecs and
allows you to temporarily rename them by using the reversible process it
offers. If you decide to get the program go to my website and select the
option on the opening screen to go to the OLD web site. When there go to
the downloads and grab the program and then go to the tutorial to see how
it works...the images in the tutorial are semi interactive...click the
appropriate button/tab.

The least convenient solution is to grab certain files from Microsoft and
install them whilst off line from the Internet....the full process....

It is important that you do not install the following programs over the
Internet. From Microsoft download DirectX 9.0c or whatever the latest
version is along with either version 9 or 10 of Windows Media Player AND
Service Pack 2 (SP2)...if downloading iSP2 is a problem try to get it off
the cover disk on the Windows XP magazine or direct from Microsoft by
post.. Finally obtain the latest graphics driver for your graphics card
from the manufacturer of the card itself and NOT from Microsoft or NVidia
or similar company. I won't bother giving the reasons for that except to
say that it is important.

The procedure which is a little tedious...

1) Reboot the machine and install the graphic card driver
2) Reboot again and install DirectX
3) Reboot again and install Media Player
4) Reboot again and install SP2
5) Reboot just one more time.

The bad news is that even after doing all of the above you might still have
a problem. There are two possible approaches if that happens....reinstall
XP followed by your graphics driver followed by SP2...DO NOT use the
windows update until after you have SP2 installed. The alternative can be
anything from hard to not possible....Discover what piece of software has
screwed up your system. If I had reached that position I would go for the
re-install...as inconvenient as it is.

If you have any additional info please do tell, it might change the path
you should take

Also try this on the Start->Run dialog:

regsvr32 %windir%\system32\qdv.dll

It should result in RegisterServer succeeded in qdv.dll message. Select OK.
Then try aRestart WMM and try again.

Hope it helps.
