When booting, tap F8 a few times before the XP welcome screen comes
up.

You will get a menu of options, Select:-

Last known good configuration .... etc.

That should restore your system to a point where it worked OK.

If that does not work, then, after tapping F8, select "Safe Mode" and
see if you can boot that way. If so, start up "System Restore" by
clicking on "Help and Support" in start menu then clicking on the
"System Restore" line.

When system restore starts, make sure "Restore my computer to an
earlier time" is selected, click next, select a date before the
problem started then click "Next"

thanks but tried and failed any other ideas

If the previous advice doesn’t works, maybe your sys is hijacked or affected.
You can try this: if it will work I hope so? Follow the line to start in the
Safe mode by pressing F8 or F5 while it restarted. Choose the on top safe
mode or safe mode with Network. Choose the Administrator account and after
seeing the pop-up press Ok>> it will load so you can see the taskbar >> click
Start >> Run >> type: msconfig >> press enter on your keyboard >> tabbed
Boot.ini and check the boot loader by clicking check start-up …..>> If it’s
OK or not you will received an answer >> If everything is OK >> doesn’t press
OK when you leave this screen >> click cancel.

Return to Start >> navigate with the pointer from your mouse on My
computer>> click right mouse button >> then click properties >> In the
following pop-up>> press the Advanced tab >> you’ll see start up and recovery
right click on this settings >> disable the third under system errors where
you see this line: restart (the computer) automatically >> press OK after
finish and restart your computer. But don’t connect to the Internet. If you
can logon without errors appear. Your sys could be unstable that cause this
error. It’s a good Idea if these works to run a full system check for
restored the damage or corrupted files. Click start >> my computer >> select
the hard drive where XP install on>> click right >> properties >> Tabbed
Tools >> select the on top: error check or something like this. Enable both
in the pop-up and click OK >> you’ll get another pop-up press yes. Before you
restarted make sure you connected with the Internet or have your original XP
Disk by hand if needed to insert it in the CD/DVD drive >> Then restarted >>
and wait patiently till this five steps finish. Don’t interfere or break it
up Otherwise you will not be able to restore your system and maybe couldn’t
logon again. The system will automatically restart after it finished!
Good luck!
