I installed SP2 over a fully functioning XPsp1 install and have now lost
ability to send email via SMTP. Receive via pop3 is fine and web/usenet is
also fine.
Windows firewall is switched off as I have a hardware firewall/router
between me and the cable modem. Nothing has been changed apart from the SP2
install.
Any ideas as to why SMTP has stopped working?
thanks,
JB

What exactly happens when you try to send email via SMTP? If there's
an error message, what does it say? What email program are you using?

Thanks for the fast reply. The error message I get is:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'John's email', Server:
'smtp.bluyonder.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket
Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Does this help?

cheers,
JB

Thanks for the details. Is that server name right? Should it be
"blueyonder" instead of "bluyonder"?

If the server name is right, check the SMTP server settings with your
ISP. In particular, make sure that the server allows secure (SSL)
connections.

Unbelieveable!!! I cannot thank you enough for pointing out my *complete*
stupidity!
Rule for the future: "Always check and recheck spellings when setting up an
account when you've been awake 27hrs!.
Again my thanks,
JB
