HELP!! Can't open correct pst file

R

Rick

I was looking for some emails that I had backed up before I had to reformat
and reinstall. I stupidly thought I was just opening the old file that was
on our network server. However, I guess I somehow linked my program to the
old file on the network. Whenever I try to open my outlook I get a message
that the [path] .pst file could not be found. I have tried to open the
folder on my computer in the outlook directory. However, when I open it and
then exit the program and reopen I get the same message all over again. It's
as if the old file on the network is the default file, and I can't change the
default.
I don't know if it's related to this issue or not, but my options are set
for the program to open on my calendar. However it opens on Outlook Today,
even though I've confirmed the settings.
Help!!

Use the Mail Applet in the control panel (with outlook closed) to correctly
set up outlook
PS The use of a pst file over a network is not supported by MS, as it leads
to data corruption

I missed a bit, if you are using pst files, you need to copy them from the
network to your workstation (eg copy to documents folder)
Then what you do depends on your version of Outlook

I may not have explained it well, so let me try doing a better job.
When I start Outlook 2003, I get a message:
Personal Folders
The path specified for the file: z:/staton/outlook backup.pst is not valid
[z is our network drive]

When I click ok a dialog box opens to open a file. It is defaulted to the
desktop and has a default name of "outlook backup" in the file name. if you
click "cancel" Outlook opens.
Does that help?

Brian Tillman [MVP - Outlook]

I may not have explained it well, so let me try doing a better job.

you
click "cancel" Outlook opens.

Open your mail profile to see if you are referencing the network-hosted PST.
If so, remove it.
