I have purchased a laptop that came with Windows XP Professional myself, so I
am a teacher, I asked a person to join my laptop to a domain(HISD)(Houston
Independent School District), now I wish to share it with another teacher
next door so she could use her projector and I wanted my laptop to log me on
automatically. I tried control userpasswords2, but the auto logon feature was
grayed out. Now i went to System Properties, and then I pressed to get off
the network, because I knew I could use the Internet without joining a
domain. It said that I had to restart the computer to unjoin the laptop from
the domain. After i rebooted, I CANNOT LOGON ANYMORE!!! I TRIED THE
ADMINISTRATOR, My user name and password!! BUT DOES NOT WORK EITHER!!!
HELP!!!!!!!! I do not have the windows xp pro CD, nor any recovery discs!!!!
HEEEEEEEEElP!!!!!

You are my only chance!!! Please!!!!

when you are at the login prompt if you see a button saying'advanced'
click it and choose login to local computer,

if you see a list of usernames that you click then enter password for
click administrator and login, if there is no admin user listed there
press ctrl+alt+del twice then enter administrator as the username if
you dont know the password trying leaving it blank

You have to use the account name / password you used
prior to joining the domain. After you're back in again,
plan ahead and create a second local admin account for
emergency purposes. At the same time get yourself the
correct WinXP system CD. Not having one makes for
a rather marginal installation.

Yes, that's correct. No one is telling you to use the Welcome Screen. On
the Classic logon box, there should be a drop-down arrow for More
Options. Click that. You should have two options - one to log onto the
domain and one to log onto the local machine ("This Computer"). Since
you disjoined your machine from the domain, you can no longer log onto
the domain. You will need to log on locally with either the built-in
Administrator account or another local user account (if there is one).
Otherwise, take your machine to school and have your IT Dept. join the
laptop to the domain again. Explain to the IT person what you were
trying to do and ask them to teach you how to do it correctly the next
time.

I know I used an administrator account for some around 3 or 4 days after the
first time I used my laptop (HP Compaq, the manual says that it comes with an
"Operating System Disc" but I was looking in the laptop's box, but there is
no operating system Disc, there is only sonic, and Intervideo discs , and i
think another dvd drive and some other stuff.). I forgot the password, and
unfortunately, I dont know it. Do you know about any site which offers free
software to reset or reveal the administrator's password? because now I
remember that during Welcome to Windows part of setup, I typed in a password
with numbers and letters, but I forgot. The HISD personnel told me that they
will come in 17 days, and they will charge me to connect me back to the
domain. I dont want to join the domain again, because i hate pressing
Ctrl-Alt-Del, every time I logon, and entering my user name (esaldivar). In
my classroom, there are 5 computers (standard HP Compaq) I can logon fine,
because they are connected to the HISD network. For the list, it has SOUTH,
STUDENT, CENTRAL, SOUTH CENTRAL, WEST, NORTH (this computer HISD56119), but
my laptop just appears with no options like these. I CANT LOGON AS
ADMINISTRATOR!!I FORGOT MY PASSWORD!!! i know it was my fault, but I need
this laptop to get going!!!

After fixing this irritating problem, create this second admin
account I mentioned and get your WinXP CD, to avoid getting
stuck again!
