Help A8N-E Doesnt post

Hi,

I just purchased parts from Newegg and put together my first 939 system
using the Asus A8N-E mobo.

The problem is it DOES NOT post.

I get no audio and just a blank screen when I power it up.

It has an XP 3000 CPU and 1GB of DDR400 RAM in two DIMMS. I have tried them
in different slots to no avail.

The part that I find really weird is that when I turn on my power supply and
push the power button, the system powers up, etc but I cannot hold the
button down and shut it off unless I physically turn off the power supply
switch on the back.

I tried taking out the PCI Express video card and putting in a standard PCI
card in a PCI slot but no luck there either.

I am going to try new RAM but am not holding out hope.

This is going to be a bitch to return to new egg because the mobo or CPU or
both could be bad.

Any suggestions on the next troubleshooting step would be greatly
appreciated.

I had exactly the same problem with my K8NE-Deluxe. It turns out that
in my case there was a second power connector on the MOBO (4-pins) that
I forgot to connect. If your power supply doesn't already have one
you'll need to purchase an adapter to go from the MOLEX disk drive
power supply connector to this auxillary connector. My board wouldn't
do anything until I finally RTFM and figured it out.

Thank you very much!!

That was exactly it. For the record, no where in the A8N-E manual does it
say anything about plugging in that power.

I looked and there was one diagram that actually showed it on the
motherboard. Anyways, everything looks good now.

Time to get an OS on the system!

Thanks Again!
