Help-A7V600 smoked what is wrong?

Ramesh

Here is my setup AMD xp 2500, A7V600, 512MB RAM PC3200, Radeon 7000
64MB AGP VGA card, Antec 430watt power supply.

Here everything is new. I assembled it. I connected 2 hardisk, CD
drive & floppy. I turned on the computer, my computer did not do
anything expect that the GREEN LED came on mother board.

I did following things

1) Then I removed all disks & VGA card. So my computer was connected
to RAM & two PCI cards. I started the machine I got beep.

2) Then I removed all cards & RAM, only CPU is connected to MOBO. I
started the machine I got beep.

3) Then I connected only RAM & VGA card (no drives & no PCI cards). I
switched on the computer, **SMOKE*** started coming. I turned off the
computer.
Could it have damaged CPU & MOBO?

4) Then I removed VGA card. So machine was running with RAM only.
I switched on the computer, I heard beep, no smoke.
No smoke mean, my MOBO & CPU are OK?

How identify the culprit here. I can try with another VGA card.
I have no clue what's wrong, pls suggest a way to solve this.

Could try removing the "VGA" card and sniff (smell) it. If it smells
a faint burned smell, it is probably broken. <Lo

Could have?

It CERTAINLY did.

Having said that, I once put my 486 in the wrong way and it blew a spark and
smoked. I reconnected it in the right orientation, and it still worked and
did for years.

But that was a ****ing fluke. Usually that smoke means money down the drain.

Did you install the (usually) brass standoffs before installing the
motherboard ? Inspect the back side of the motherboard for damage before
doing anything else.
