I have this problem where a grey menu appears on my desktop
randomly. It is not a pop up ad. It is a menu with
shortcuts to all of my documents. It does not go away when
I click on the desktop. The only way to make it go away is
to open one of the documents. When the menu opens the hard
drive always starts to spin. There is no identifiable
keystroke that does it. Does anybody else have this problem?

Have you run a full virus and trojan scan?
Have you installed and run ad-aware 6 and spybot search and
destroy.

Because of the proliferation of Malware, these should be standard
procedure whenever anything unexpected happens.

They should also be run once in a while even when things seem
perfectly normal...

Sounds like you may have accidentally created a toolbar for the My Documents or Recent Files folder.
Does this menu appear at one edge of the screen?

If it is a tool bar, it should have a dotted "handle at the top/left of it. If you right-click this
and then select 'toolbars' from the menu, you should be able to uncheck the folder.
