I've developed a problem lately that's driving me nuts. When I click on a
folder on my desktop, my computer dials the internet. I've run 3 different
anti-spyware programs and this does not appear to be the problem. I ran
system restore and this only temporarily solves the problem. Then the problem
happens all over again. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this annoying
problem ?

does it do this for all folders?
what about deleting this folder and creating a new one?

Yes for all folders on my desktop. It also does it when I click on "my
computer" and the "recycle bin". If I click on a single file on the desktop
it doesn't do it. If I run system restore, it fixes the problem until I log

Sounds like you haven't secured your computer. What antivirus app, firewall
and malware cleaning are you using?

If you have not protected your computer and have a dialer, be prepared for a
shock when the
phone bill arrives.

Without proper antivirus, firewall and spyware protection, you are leaving
your computer wide open to the type of infection you have now.

Have you used Microsoft's Antispyware program (beta edition)? If not do
so now and fast. download the file, install it, update, run it.

If this doesn't fix the problem then clean install XP will do it.
system restore will not work as these scumware are embedded everywhere
you know of! They are always one step ahead of Microsoft's security
patches. The onus is on you not to expose your system by using an
Administrator account for evryday use. Always create a limited account
for daily use. Only once a month use Admin account to update it with
security paches and log off immediately after that.

In window Vista you will automatically have limited account by default
so this will protect you to some extent.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I will try them. I hope they help. I'm
running norton anti-virus, spyware blaster, spyware doctor, and spybot search
and destroy. Also windows firewall.
