I need to put a report or page heading across a page with columns in the
detail. In the detail, I have the page very narrow to put more information
on the page. What should I be doing?

on the page. What should I be doing?

Instead of having the report width the size of a single column, set
the width of the report to the size of the paper it's going to be
printed on. Let say an 11" width (Landscape) minus the width of the
left and right margins. So with 1" left and right margins, make it 9".
Then click on File + Page Setup+ Columns.
In the Column Size area, uncheck the "Same as Detail" check box and
enter the width of the column manually in the Width text box.
Save the changes.
Now in the report, cut and paste the Group Header information into the
Page Header. Move the controls to where it would appear over the
rightmost column. Paste it again, as many times as you have columns.
and move each set of controls over the approximate position it should
be in to print over the column, working from right to left.

Save the report. Run the report in preview. Re-position the page
header controls as needed to properly show over it's column.
