heading numbering when converted to pdf

Word 2002, Acrobat 6.0
When pdf-ing a Word document which uses numbering in the headings, the pdf
bookmarks are created without the numbers. Any ideas how this can be fixed?
I've added them manually for now, but we're looking at a great many documents.
Hope you can help, I've looked for Acrobat's equivalent to this site but
found nothing as friendly

What sort of numbering in the headings? Can you provide an example?
Are you using the Acrobat add-in to create the PDF or simply printing to the
PDF driver? Use the former.

Hi Graham,

It's fairly standard outline numbering:
1. Heading1
1.1. heading2
1.1.1. heading3 etc

I've tried both the add-in and printing. The add-in picks up all the heading
styles and bookmarks them, but cuts out the numbering.

I can't reproduce this problem. Provided outline numbering is actually
switched on (and therefore the numbers show in print layout view) the PDF
conversion picks them up as intended here.

If you are saying that the bookmarks tab in the Acrobat window does
not display outline numbers, just the text of the headings, then I see
the same thing (using Adobe Acrobat 5). It could be a version issue.
Perhaps newer versions function differently in this respect.

I convert numbered headings all the time using CutePDF.
