Hdd problems continue...

Updated the bios and new ribbon cable installed and bios immediately
detected my 160 gig drive.Created partitions and started the format to NFTS
but after 2 hours format had not proceeded beyond 0 per cent.Shut down
and now,bios does not see the drive.how do I proceed?

First are you getting proper voltages to the drive. Maybe you have
a flakey power connector. If you have a CD rom that is recognized
swap its power connect with the HD to see if the problem changes
to the CD drive. If thats not the problem then run the manufactures
test program on the drive. If it was a retail drive it came on a floppy
or CD with the drive. Or you can download it from their web sight.
That will tell if anything is wrong with the drive and you can also
zero out the drive and restore it to its factory new condition, but
you'll lose all the data on the drive.

Make sure that you are formatting the drive while using the updated Windows
XP SP1/SP2. Windows XP can ot use most hard drive > 137GB without a patch
originally supplied in SP1.
