For my 6 hours of constant research on this SAD day I think I have identified
the Culprit. This was a VIRUS called "BloodHound" that Hijacked my Computer
and has set a Built-in HDD password for access. I have been INCORRECTLY
trying all day to reset the BIOS password and could'nt anyway.

I thank the posters that tried to offer a solution but hate to say that
you've been mis-informed. The BIOS and the HDD passwords are NOT the same.
From my extensive research today I have concluded that there is NO WAY to
reset the HDD Password (Not the BIOS).

So Far I came up with TWO possible mini- SOlutions:

1. Take computer to Data Recovery and Pray a lot
2. Take computer and tie a ROCk to it and throw it in the ocean caseu this
Ship is SUNK.

If there are any Geniuses out there I offer you a REAL CHALLENGE you to
Crack this problem!

I desperatley need to get around this Password to save my programs and data.
Please help if you can.

Thanks again for the support !

The term "Bloodhound" is a generic term used by Norton/Symantec for a heuristic find on
potentially unknown infectors.

So I have to ask you how you came to that conclusion or what was the anti virus software
that indicated a "Bloodhound" detection and what EXACTLY was its full name. for example here
are some Norton/Symantec Bloodhound detection types...

Bloodhound.W32.1
Bloodhound.Exploit.1
Bloodhound.Overpacked
Bloodhound.Inflated

I just read Toshiba's document on the HDD Password. It clearly
states that moving the disk to another PC will not allow access.
My only recommendation now would be a bootable CD-R that
has a DOS mode imaging program. DOS Level access is not the
same as trying to boot to the disk. It might be able to Image the
disk to CD-R/DVD-R. But even if that works, you'd have to get
a replacement drive and preferably one without the password
option to restore the image to.

You should call Toshiba - You can't be the first customer to have
this issue. It would probably be a return to factory type of repair. If
they have some unlock method they won't be inclined to divulge it.

If this is a virus, did it simply get past your Anti-Virus program ?

I spoke again to a Tech T Toshiba, At the time he seemed knowledgeable in
that area as he had a similiar problem. HE said that it was a Bloodhound.
I'm sorry I do not know the suffixes.

I spoke with some more people and they said that the BIOS is what RUns the
whole system. If thats true then why can I NOT get access to my BIOS? The
MSDOS prompt specifically defines the password as HDD. Since HDD and BIOS
are different why can't I get access to my BIOS? I've tried most everthing
tht you've suggested along with others and can't get to it.

At this POINT the VIRUS thing seems most logical.

Thanks

No, it is not logical at all and the Toshiba Technician who told you an unspecified
Bloodhound is NOT as knowledgeable as he/she appeared. Like I said, Bloodhound is a generic
name made by Symantec for a heuristic find on potentially unknown infectors. So for the
technician to state it is because a of a bloodhound virus is completely off-base.

It is too bad that you don't have a floppy drive. It would be handy to have one to diagnose
your problem. Without one it hard to diagnose the problem(s).

You are obviously accessing the internet via Road Runner. Is it possible to make a Bootable
DOS CDROM from the computer you are at ? If not, it is time to take the Toshiba to a
Certified Service center.

He means, keep this whole discussion in one News Group thread and DON'T create a new post
and thus a new News Group thread. that is in reference to your first post entitled "Toshiba
Said is a VIRUS that put in a password". This discussion should be under that thread.

It can be tricky sometimes to get into the BIOS. You have to press the right
key at just the right time.

Try some of the different key combinations suggested here...
