HD

I just installed Win XP on a replacement HD. Disconnected
the original HD and used same connections. Installed HD
using XP CD and formatted using NTFS, it is 40 GB on a
Dell 8100 with 384MB RAM.
Problem is it assigns the drive letter for this drive
(40GB) to E: and makes the internal zip C: and my
external HD F:
I tried to change the letters but it won't allow me to
make the change in disk management.
any ideas

I can't believe that is the only solution for changing
the drive letters.
this was a clean install and I do have an upgrade but
also have the necessary CDs to show that I had the
programs previously.
this is an internal zip drive
Thank you

that is the first time I've ever heard anything like that
and done it many times in the past,a lot of years :)
Really got me baffled and don't like being a doubter.

Sometimes you may get away with it, depending upon what kind of peripheral
device is attached.. bear in mind that the majority, if not all, of USB
devices require driver and software installation BEFORE they are connected
to a USB port.. It is far better to load an OS where the only devices
attached are keyboard, mouse and screen, and then deal with peripherals
after you have determined that the OS is working as it should.. back in the
early days of Win 3.1 and MSDOS 5, I even used to remove internal cards
other than video until I was sure that the pc was basically working.. I
would then re-install them starting with the sound card as sound required
IRQ 5 to work at all.. leaving other cards in would sometimes result in
sound being allocated another IRQ, and it was the devils own job to get
things sorted at times..

I suppose enough said but I go back further than the old
days and never remember (key word) doing anything like
that but thanks and I will try it
have a good one
