Drive Letter Changes upon Repair

I have XP Home SP2 set up on my M: internal HD. I need to repair it,
or reinstall. I use the original CD -- when I get to the choice of
which system to repair (I've got two different systems; two different
Hard Drives). it offers me: C:\Windows or D:\Windows.

Problem is, my D: drive is a logical partition on the other HD; This
HD is M:. I want it to stay M:. Why does Windows insist on
reassigning my drive letters? How can I make it install to the M:
drive and keep M as the drive letter?

It won't let me change the drive letter after the system is installed.
