We are using a 40GB HD and we have installed XP
Professional by using 20GB. We have converted the FS to
NTFS as well.

The remaining 20GB partition hasn't been created yet.
However, now we would like to create an extended partition
for the remaining space in HD. Is it necessary for us to
boot up the HD and format the remaining space ?

What is the best way to do so ?

Thanks

After you installed Windows XP, the extended partition should be created.
You can look it in My Computer, and format it for use.
Otherwise, you can download an utility to help you.

Use disk management from Computer Management format the empty space. Right
click My Computer and select manage from the menu to open Computer
Management.
