You'll get more help if you post what HD tv card you are trying to use. (of
course if the card isn't HD capable you won't get HD)

Just a general question because I am not a real good technical person, but
doesn't a monitor/TV have to be HDCP compliant to be able to receive HD
content with Vista. Not all HD TV's meet the standard-particularly the older
models.

I don't have a hd video card i have an fx5200 agp, But in win xp with the
nvidia software it will reconize the tv as an phillips hdtv but in vista
it will not. and for the Resolution it is locked at the lowest setting
which is 800x600 and the slider will not move. so i will probley need a hd
card in my computer for vista to reconize my tv. nd for HDCP compliant i
don't know what that is.

thanks for everyones help,

mike

The problem is that the TV is being seen as a PnP monitor. I.E. the device
info is not in the OS for it to correctly realise its capabilities. I am not
sure if this is done by MSFT in the OS, or by the video card driver.
I know that both ATI and NVidia drivers for 5384 suck..but they are getting
better...hopefully we will see a drastic change when they start pounding on
the new SDK for Dx10.

I guess I will have to hook up my machine to the HDTV and see what it sees.
I did not realise that I had not done that yet.
