HD for a MSI 6183

Good day,
just wondered if anyone knew which size HD I can put on a
MSI 6183 mobo.
Just updated the bios to the last version (2000) and it says
it can handle 40 gig ones.
Will it take a bigger one (60 gig for instance).
No info on the MSI site.
Thanks in advance for any help
Regards

It will take but it may not recognize the parts of the drive over 40 Gig.
That's an odd place to set a limit though. It won't hurt your motherboard
to try. Also, the disk manufacturer may include a program to address
the extra disk space. AND, you can always partition the disk.

Partitioning the disk doesn't have anything to do with the BIOS being able
to address it. Only the OS.

To the OTP,

I know that Maxtor and Western Digital both used to have a "soft-BIOS"
(Called EZ-BIOS) that would load on boot up and allow you to use drives with
larger capacities than your BIOS can natively support.

From Maxtor technical support site:

http://maxtor.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/maxtor.cfg/php/enduser/olh_adp.php?p_faqid=1079

This will likely be your only solution ... aside from buying an ATA card
that supports larger drive capacities.
