HD filling up-what can I remove?

I

IronMan

Hi;
My 40 gig (Fujitsu Lifebook C2210) laptop HD is almost
filled, and I need to make room. I'm a pro musician and
record a lot of audio (.wav and .mp3 formats), as well as
live videos in various formats. I'd like to keep these on
the computer.

I've compressed the drive, done Windows disk cleanup,
emptied recycle bin, removed obvious programs I don't
need, and stored large files I don't need often on my
desktop. Are there other things I can do to free up space
on my HD? Files and such I can reasonably safely remove,
changes, etc.?

Thanks in advance.

It's not like he's going to notice his computer going
twice as fast... Don't lie to the guy.

If you have a lot of music and movies on the computer,
that's the stuff taking up all the space.

I would suggest getting a new Hard Drive, because it
sounds to me like you have need of a lot of storage.
Without knowing what is installed on it, and seeing it for
ourselves, we really have no way of knowing what is safe
to take out that won't mess you up.

System restore can take up alot of space depending on your setting. If you
really need the room you can clear your restore point by going to system
properties and turning it off.

I'm a bit confused here. With today's CD writing
capabilities of XP how can you possibly run out of space?
Just write any of your wav files to a disk and delete them
from the HDD. You should also be aware that storing files
on your desktop is not a good idea. Any time you reboot
this will add all sorts of time to the boot as XP needs to
load the entire contents of the file. Shortcuts are all
that should be there and creating shortcuts for a file is
as easy as right clicking and choosing create shortcut and
then dragging and dropping it to the desktop. I have a
40Gig HDD and have been using it for two years and still
only have 10Gig used. Writing to CD is easy and quick.
Have fun.

turning it off is not recommended.. Much better to just reduce
the size of the SR space. Right click "my computer"/properties/
system restore.
Select the drive in question and reduce the space. I have mine set to
about 500MB.
