Hi, I have a western digital 40 gig HD that I just can't seem to get to
work. I bought it from PCWorld, preformatted and the works. My problem
comes when I connect to the motherboard and switch the computer on. I
don't know whether it is a duff HD but I have set the jumper correctly a
million and one times and can't think what the problem is. In my cmos
setup I have is set to detect HDs automatically. When I start my
cmputer it says "Detecting Hrad disks ... press F4 to skip". I have
left it for 2 hours and it's still not been detected, just stays on that
screen like it's stuck. I would appreciate any help or suggestions!

Unless you have an old motherboard with a 32GB limit, it sounds
like you do have a 'duff HD'.

Try setting the disk to LBA in the bios

This is going to sound really dumb, but where do you have it plugged into on
the IDE cable. It makes a differance.
