Just ran into a problem with my main hard drive :(

OS: Windows XP Professional SP3

My Setup:
300gb(System)/500gb(Storage)
2GB DDR2 Corsair
8600GT 512mb
Intel C2D E6850 3.0GHZ

I thought that maybe I could just reformat and fix it from what the error I was getting before that was saying that the windows files were broken and I needed to run the repair tool off the Windows CD. I GOOGLE'd the error I got before I reformatted and many people that got that error mentioned that it might be a boot sector problem. I ran the chkdsk with no errors found or anything being repaired.

Error(from Event Viewer):
Event ID - 55
The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume C:.

EDIT: My question is how can I fix this problem without buying a new HD for my system drive. Also, my friend mentioned that I might be able to setup my OS to run around/over those bad sectors on the hard drive.

Any help would be much appreciated and THANK YOU ahead of time for any help!

welcome to PCR

If you have reported "bad sectors" on a hard drive, chuck it in the bin and buy a new one.
