Does anyone know if there is any way that a Hayes
Smartmodem 9600 external modem can be used with Windows
XP?

What problems are you having with it?

Why would you want to use something so old that 2400 baud
was fast. You can buy a new modem for very little money,
either external or internal that will be 25-30 times faster.

The old protocols used by the 9600 just are not supported by
the ISPs anymore.

With a good chisel and some soft rock, you could get your message
across...in time. Sorry for being a smart ass, but you can replace
that antique for 30 or 40 bucks and have something the ISP's can
recognize.
