Having trouble sharing files on home network windowsxp

Hi,
I have my laptop wireless networked to my desktop. While trying to configure
my desktop files to be shared with my laptop, I'm finding two problems.
1) When I uncheck the "Read-Only" in a folder's Properties dialogue box, it
doesn't stay unchecked. I check "apply", then I check "OK". When I go back
to the folder's Properties, "read-only" is checked.

2) When I check "Share thsi folder on the network" and "allow network users
to change my files", I get the "Confirm Attribute changes" dialogue box. I
check "Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and filse", then click OK.
However, subfolders are not marked "shared"

What do I need to do to correct the above?

Hi,

1) Ignore it, it's meaningless as applied to folders. All folders will show
as "read only", however that attribute is ignored by the system. It only
applies to files. Setting "read only" for users of a shared folder is
accomplished using permissions, not attributes.

2) But can users access the sub-directories?
