Having trouble setting up wireless network

I just got my son a used Dell laptop off Ebay and purchased both a Linksys
WRT54G broadband router and WPC54G notebook card. I have internet connection
ok for both but wanted to "share" files and printer from my desktop pc.I have
ran the setup home office network wizard and restarted both. I cannot see
either computer when I go to network places. I have been at this a couple hrs
and my head hurts!....can someone please help....Please give me each step in
properly setting it up...Thanks a bunch U guys are great for helping newies
