Having Problems with Windows Update

For the last 4 months, my Windows Update "finds" new updates, automatically
downloads them but always FAILS to install them. If I re-try this manually,
I see that after it downloads them and the box appears to install them, it
just "freezes" there and about 3-4 minutes later I get an "Update failed"
message. I have tried checking the WindowsUpdate.LOG, but the last entry
there is like from May 2004.

The only way I can successfully install the updates is by downloading the
separate .EXE for each one, and then running them separately. Then,
everything works fine.

I have tried cleaning my TEMP directories, running Virus/Spyware Scanners
but to no avail. Otherwise, my Windows XP SP2 system works perfectly
without any lockups or strange behavior.

Can someone please advise me?

you can rename c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download to c:\WINDOXP\SoftwareDistribution\Download.poo and all updates will be downloaded and applied again

Go to Windows Update at Microsoft.com and in the left-hand pane there is a
listing for "Review Update History".Click on this and you should get a list
of all downloaded updates including the failed installs.Follow the
instructions to find out why the install failed.

I just did what you asked and found the following error code:

Error Code: 0x80246008
Try to install the update again, or request help from one of the
following resources.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Three sugestions as follows:
1: Run System File Checker which should correct any dll problems.(maybe).
2: Download Dial-a-Fix from Djlizard.net,this can fix Windows Update and Dll
problems.(its free).
3: Phone Microsoft support. There is no charge for Windows Update problems.

I'd problem with impossible upgrading : 0X8O246008 and this thread was fully
helpful for me, thanks a lot.
