having problems when logging on to windows

when logging on to windows (there are 4 of us using one computer, eache with
our own log in password), i get 2 error dialogue boxes. the first dialogue
box has a heading wupdater and inside the box the message reads data.1dat was
not found. i dont know what that is or means.
the other dialogue box has a heading java virtual machine launcher and
inside the message reads could not find the main class. program will exit.
inside the box there is a red circle with an x thru it.
PLEASE help!!! i am computer stupid and need help fixing these problems.

Hi,

I'm afraid wupdater is NOT a microsoft program - it is spware or adware,
which can also be part of a virus.

You should have a good anti-virus program to protect your system - like
Panda, Symantec, Sophos etc - and the free ones can be very good too - see
http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/ for AVG.

I would suggest a good online scanner - go to www.pandasoftware.com and use
the ActiveScan service (no charge!) on their homepage - then do it again for
good measure!

You can also sweep your system for syware & adware with a number of
utilities, try Adaware from www.lavasoftusa.com - they have a free version
for home users and it seems quite efficient.
