Having problems copying my favorites from Windows 98 to XP

I'm in the process of backing up all my data from Windows 98 to XP over the
network. I have sucessfully backed up all my data from Win 98 to XP apart
from my favorites. When I try to back up some of my web files (favorites), I
receive the following error: "Cannot find the specified file; Make sure you
specify the correct path and file name". I even tried using the net use cmd
in MS DOS to see if I could avoid this error but no such luck. It will copy
over a certain amount of web files in certain web folders but it will halt as
soon as it detects this error. This is most frustrating as I have numerous
important favorites that need to be copied over from my Win98 PC. If I have
to manually back up each web page individually, it will be very painful and
slow. Please note that I have assigned full control for the shared folder
containing my favorites. Furthermore, my antivirus is fully updated and I
have scanned this shared folder as well.

Is there any solution to this problem. If I was copying my favorites
between two 98 PCs, this would certainly not happen. I can't understand why
it copies over some favorites files but not others. I can't copy my
favorites to a floppy and transfer it to the XP computer because the XP
machine doesn't have a floppy drive. Furthermore, there is no command prompt
only (real DOS) feature in XP like in Win 98 to copy over files.

I would welcome any assistance.

Firstly, thanks for the reply.

I agree with you that the wireless connection on my Windows XP laptop seems
to drop its network connection intermittently due to this power save
configuration as it sometimes displays "an incorrect specified path name"
when trying to copy files across the network at times. However, this does
not explain why it displays this constant or continous error message when
trying to copy over certain favorite files on the network from Win 98 PC to
XP. I have no problems in copying over all the other documents via the LAN.
It seems to pick up on the same web files all the time as being incorrect
while copying over other web files (Favorites). Once the XP machine detects
an incorrect web file, it stops the copying procedure immediately. The error
I receive for a dropped network connection is different to the specific error
I receive when trying to copy over certain web files (favorites). At least
with the power save error, I can manage to copy over files eventually while
persisting but this does not apply to the error relating to the web files as
it highlights the same specific name of the web file causing the problem and
terminates the copying process which is so annoying.

I would welcome any more suggestions.

Thanks

Some of the Favorites files might have names that contain characters
that prevent them from copying over a LAN.

Instead of copying the Favorites folder, with its numerous individual
files:

1. Run Internet Explorer on 98 and have it export Favorites to a file.

2. Copy that file over the network to XP.

3. Run Internet Explorer on XP and have it import Favorites from that
file.
